Arrival Prequel to The Unfolding - (Companion Short - a Short Story)

The UnFolding

A fantasy fiction tale of adventure and intrigue, follows a group of diverse characters on a quest to save the last remnant of Old Earth and to help bring balance to their home planets. Traveling through time and dimension, young and old combine wits and magic to thwart the diabolical plot of those determined to conquer and enslave the unique populations that inhabit the Inner Universe.

The series is told in four novels and eleven companion shorts (one short story, nine novelettes, and one novella). Companion shorts are additional morsels that enhance the reader’s knowledge of the characters, plot, actions, and worlds in the UnFolding Series.

I suggest reading the books in order although each group of shorts between novels can be enjoyed in any order you wish. You might like to save a companion short in your e-reader or smartphone to read when you find yourself in a waiting situation on earth and wish to visit another planet to pass a bit of time.

Arrival Prequel to The UnFolding eBook SK Randolph Reviews

This story has beautiful world building, especially for a short story. I haven't read any of the other books in thus series so I have a lot of questions for which I hope to find answers when I get to read more. I love the way the shape shifting is introduced and used. I look forward to learning more of the events hinted at within.
I read this author’s short story in the Glimpses anthology and liked it. The universe seemed complex and intriguing and I wanted to see where she would go with her characters. This earlier work though, is badly in need of some tough editing. The first few pages bog the reader down in way too many new words; after that there is an enjoyable lyrical passage where the main characters briefly explore a world new to them. Unfortunately the majority of the story is then spent in the protagonist’s “sanctuary” which is basically a glorified office and then there are endless incantations in verses which are not always very good over Elcaro’s Eye and and Ostradio’s Compass which are about as interesting as Facetime and Google Maps. The villains are seen only briefly and they are very shallow and cartoonish. The nature of their misrule is not shown in any detail. Finally, another character is introduced at the end who could have been interesting, but almost no time is spent on him. The author needs to cut down on the chants, reduce the number of times the protagonist expresses appreciation for her brother’s presence, and spend more time fleshing out these other characters. Also, the whole opening sequence should probably be dropped or only told through memories as the characters explore and settle into their new surroundings. The author can do better; she has done better. I look forward to seeing a revision of this story.
An enjoyable read that adds further detail to the backstory of The Unfolding Trilogy.
Good short prequel.
Great appetizer... I'm new to the series, and this prequel wets your appetite for the next book in the series. My only complaint... it's short ) Can't wait to start reading Unfolding #2.
A new Author for me! Ya Ho! I am loving this so much that I moved on to The Unfolding collection one.
