Having endured years of an abusive marriage, Grace Evans finally walks out on her loveless marriage and boards a train for York. Within hours of arriving in the ancient city, her destiny is changed forever by a portrait in her hotel room. Haunted by the ghost of Robert Hamilton and confronted with a portrait of herself painted four hundred years ago, Grace has every reason to doubt her sanity. Then Grace finds herself four hundred years in the past, in the bed of the man who has haunted her. A man she barely knows but who, with just one kiss, filled the empty space that had been her shattered heart.
How are Grace and Robert connected to Simon and Corran of ‘When Fate Dictates’?
I’d love to tell you, but that would ruin the surprise, so I’m sorry folks, you are just going to have to find out in ‘Entwined’, book three of the 'Highland Secret Series'.
Beyond Time Highland Secret Series Book 2 eBook Elizabeth Marshall
I really get into a good time travel story. I just wish this was longer, however it is a part of a series and the book that follows this is Entwined. Which I have not got yet. I do have the first book (a Fate Decided??) I will read it first before Entwined. So for my take on Beyond Time. When Grace up and leaves her Pastor husband and 15 year old daughter Jess, she travels to York and rents a hotel room (#23) in a building that has been around for 400 years. when she goes into her room she observes a painting on the wall of a very handsome gentlemen, she later finds out that he was once the owner of the hotel and a very prominent man in his time. The story takes off with Grace talking to the painting and then dreaming of the man in the painting and it seems like everywhere she goes there is something that is associated with that man (Robert Hamilton) The job she gets, the museum she visits, the Pub that her boss takes her to, it is all tied to Robert Hamilton.
To find out where all this leads, you need to read the book. I liked very much.

Beyond Time Highland Secret Series Book 2 eBook Elizabeth Marshall Reviews
Wow I loved Grace for her strength to leave her husband. I wanted to hurt him for her but in the end she made out much better.
Robert Hamilton was a man haunted by his dreams of a dead wife but in the end he was reunited with his true love.
Time will test true love
I liked this book a lot, but I found myself wanting more in the way of story and character development. Marshall is obviously a good writer, but, in this book at least, many details were left out and I believe the work would be more satisfying if it was fleshed out a little. Work on tradecraft is needed.
I was enjoying this book about a wife who was hiding from an abusive husband. While in hiding, she decides to stay in an old motel, where she feels an odd attachment to a man in an old portrait. The story was just becoming interesting to me when it ended suddenly without telling the readers what had happened! This was disappointing to me, although others might want to read it with this in mind.
This was very well written. It kind of reminded me of that old movie "Somewhere in Time" with Jane Seymour. I really liked the characters and when the romance kicks in I'm hanging on every word spoken between them. This is a slow (not too slow) relaxed paced romance. Which, since the book is short it doesn't feel like forever for something to happen. I only wish it was a longer fuller book so that more things could have been explained and a few parts could have been more developed. I'm not disappointed though. It kept my interest the whole time and the romance was really good.
I didn't read book one and didn't feel lost. This was just o.k., and since it was free, would recommend if you want a quick read before you go onto something heavy. It is about a ghost, at times the story is hard to follow. There isn't any lovemaking, no romance, no surprises. The language I felt that was used by Robert was more modern, than from 400 years prior. But, as I say, it is a quick read and free. I am not going to read either book one or three, stopping while I am ahead. There is a problem with her daughter, that isn't resolved and not sure if it is explained in book 3, just so you know. (ljb)
I liked this book, but I didn't love it. There were A LOT of editing problems...supposedly taking place in England, but there were American/Canadian-ized terms (such as "cell phone" instead of "mobile"). typos, incorrect punctuation, etc.
One very major problem I have with Ms. Marshall's writing is during character conversations. The author, like so many others, makes the mistake of overusing character names in conversations. For example, when speaking to my friend I rarely say, "Thank you, Gina, I really appreciate it." "You're welcome, Becky." It's too stilted. We just say, "Thanks." "You're welcome." Unless you're in the middle of a couple dozen people and no one is too sure who you're talking to, there's no need to use names.
Also, based on the series title, I THOUGHT this was going to be a Highland book, but it wasn't. However, all in all, it was an enjoyable book, although it ended rather abruptly. I gave it 4-stars because there isn't an option for 3-1/2.
I have to admit, this book has been on my for a while before I finally decided to read it. I wasn't sure what to expect since I didn't read the description before starting to read and couldn't remember what it was about exactly. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a great story and had my attention from the beginning. There is a magical aspect to this story that isn't explained until well into the book so it just keeps you guessing.
The part that surprised me the most was the time travel experience of the characters. I wasn't expecting that and wasn't exactly thrilled with this idea but it gives this story another level of intrigue and interest. To read more about the characters I did download the second book but am kind of disappointed that it is only a little over 100 pages but we'll see where that one leads.
All in all, this is a good book and a start to an interesting series.
